Manchester City's title hopes took another massive knock after dropping points at Newcastle United, with a former Liverpool player netting a superb late equaliser.
With Sergio Aguero expected to miss a few weeks due to injury, Gabriel Jesus was handed a start in the attack alongside Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez.
It took City a while to get going before Sterling broke the deadlock just after 20 minutes with a neat finish into the bottom corner after being teed up by David Silva.
Newcastle weren't behind for too long as Willems played a neat one-two with Almiron before firing into the bottom corner for his second goal of the season.
The Magpies looked a lot more lively from thereon, but they were unable they were unable to carve out another opportunity in the first half, while the Citizens were left frustrated in the final third at the other end.
After a quiet start to the second half, City were presented with a golden chance after 68 minutes when David Silva played in Jesus, who could only fire straight at Matt Dubravka in a one-on-one situation.
Moments later, Pep Guardiola introduced a double change as David Silva and Mahrez made way for Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden for the final 20 minutes.
However, it was Kevin de Bruyne who stepped up with eight minutes remaining as the Belgian sealed the winning goal with superb volley that sailed in off the crossbar.
Just as they did in the first half, Newcastle were back on level on 88 minutes when former Reds midfielder Jonjo Shelvey curled home a superb strike to seal a point for the the hosts.
