English Premier League
Result: Newcastle United 2-1 Arsenal
Date: 15 April 2018
Venue: St James' Park
Newcastle United came from behind to defeat Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returned to the line up after missing the Europa League clash on Thursday evening and Gunners took the lead after 14 minutes as the Gabon international latched onto a long ball before picking out Alexandre Lacazette, who fired home at the far post.
Newcastle did not sit back as they managed to level matters on 29 minutes as Ayoze Perez turned home Dwight Gayle's cross.
Arsenal had a chance to restore their lead just before the break but young Joe Willock fired home horribly wide from close range.
The sides went into the break level at 1-1.
After a quiet start to the second half, Newcastle took the lead after 68 minutes as Islam Slimani's knockdown ended up with Matt Ritchie, who calmly fired into the far corner.
The Magpies nearly extended their lead with 14 minutes remaining but Perez could only hit the side-netting from close range.
Arsene Wenger threw on Ainsley Maitland-Niles for the final 10 minutes, with Callum Chambers making way.
Despite the late push from the Gunners, Rafael Benitez's charges managed to see out the rest of the game to claim three points.
