Newcastle Hold Man City To Draw
Result: Newcastle United 1-1 Manchester City
Date: 19 April 2016
Venue: St James' Park
Newcastle collected a vital point against Manchester City on Tuesday as they drew 1-1 in the Premier League.
The Sky Blues made the ideal start to the clash as they opened the scoring in the 14th minute. However, it was in controversial circumstances. From a free kick, Sergio Aguero headed home at the near post, despite being a few yards offside.
Lascelles then gifted Manchester City with a great chance in the 22nd minute. Kevin de Bruyne pounced on the ball and looked to pass to Aguero, but he was in an offside position so the Belgian went on his own, hitting his shot wide.
The Magpies should have been level a few minutes later. Vincent Kompany made an error in defence as he was the last man and committed himself to a tackle on the halfway line. Sissoko knocked the ball past him and was one-on-one with Joe Hart, but his effort was straight at the goalkeeper.
In the 31st minute that miss was forgotten as Newcastle levelled matters. Anita sprinted down the right and cut into the area before sending a venomous shot in off the far post. Kolarov had to do better with his marking as he let Anita through.
Darlow kept the hosts on even terms with City just after the break. Navas was played through into the area, Dummett caught napping, and he directed a shot at the far corner, but the home gloveman made a top stop.
In the closing stages of the game the teams were still level, but Newcastle had a great chance to find a late winner. Wijnaldum broke into the box but his near-post shot was brilliantly saved by Hart.
