Result: Middlesbrough 1-2 Arsenal
Date: 17 April 2017
Venue: Riverside Stadium
Arsenal ended their four-game losing run on the road, as goals from Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil secured a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough on Monday evening.
Arsene Wenger went for three defenders at the back, as Olivier Giroud started in the attack with Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Boro enjoyed the better of the exchanges in the opening 15 minutes of the first half, although they struggled to carve out clear-cut chances.
The likes of Ozil and Sanchez were finding it tough to break down the home side's defence, although Oxlade-Chamberlain had a lot of joy down the right flank.
The Gunners eventually broke the deadlock with their first real effort just before the halftime break, as Sanchez curled home a superb free-kick from 25-yards out.
However, Boro leveled matters five minutes into the second half when Stewart Downing picked out Alvaro Negredo, who side-footed home from six-yards out, 1-1.
Arsenal nearly restored their lead in the 62nd minute, but Brad Guzan produced a good save to deny Ozil from close range, following a fine through ball from Sanchez.
The visitors did restore their lead on 70 minutes as Aaron Ramsey turned provider to set up Ozil, who drilled the ball home at Guzan's near post from close range, 1-2.
Boro pushed for an equalising goal and also threw on Benin international Rudy Guestede for the final 10 minutes of the half.
However, the hosts could not create another clear-cut opening in the final stages as Wenger's men held on for the win.
