English Premier League Report, Manchester United v West Brom, 15 April
English Premier League
Full Time: Manchester United 0-1 West Brom
Date: 15 April 2018
Venue: Old Trafford
Manchester City were crowned English Premier League champions after their cross-town rivals Manchester United suffered a 1-0 loss to bottom-placed West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford.
The Citizens only needed one more win to secure the title following their win over Tottenham Hotspur, but the Red Devils' loss to West Brom means they have now mathematically secured the title.
The first real scoring chance of the game fell to West Brom in the 12th minute when Jake Livermore broke into the box, but he was thwarted by David de Gea from close range.
Eight minutes later, United managed their first real foray into the box when Romelu Lukaku found himself in space 16-yards out, but his stinging shot was brilliantly saved by Ben Foster.
Lukaku was in the thick of the action again in the 36th minute when he was put through on goal, but he failed to beat Foster in a one-on-one.
The half ended 0-0.
Eight minutes into the second half and Juan Mata came within inches of opening the scoring, but his 20-yard shot shaved the wrong side of the woodwork.
In the 66th minute, Lukaku rose highest to meet a right-wing cross into the box, but his 12-yard header was magnificently saved by the fingertips of Foster.
United were made to pay for their missed opportunities 13 minutes from time when West Brom took the lead after Jay Rodriguez headed home from a few feet out after getting on the end of a mistake from Nemanja Matic from a corner-kick, 1-0.
United tried to find their way back into the match after that, but were unable to penetrate the West Brom defence and suffered their sixth loss of the league season.
