Man Utd Sink Watford As Midfielder Bids Farewell
English Premier League Report: Manchester United v Watford 13 May 2018
English Premier League
Result: Manchester United 1-0 Watford
Date: 13 May 2018
Venue: Old Trafford
Marcus Rashford's first-half strike was enough to hand Manchester United a 1-0 win over Watford as they bid farewell to one of their stars at Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick was handed a start in his final game for the Red Devils, while Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera dropped to the bench.
United dominated the opening exchanges although they hardly tested goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes in the opening 15 minutes of the encounter.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock on 34 minutes as Juan Mata latched onto Carrick's long ball before unselfishly teeing up Rashford, who slotted past Gomes.
Watford nearly pulled level just before the break but goalkeeper Sergio Romero produced a fine save to keep out Richarlison's close-range header.
The second half started in similar fashion to the first, with United dominating without creating too many chances.
Jose Mourinho opted for a change after an hour as Luke Shaw replaced Ashley Young, while Troy Deeney was introduced for Watford minutes later.
Despite the flurry of changes, both sides continued to struggle for chances in the final third, much to the displeasure of the crowd.
Unfortunately, that proved to be the trend for the rest of match as the Red Devils ended the season with three points.
