English Premier League
Result: Manchester United 0-0 Manchester City
Date: 25 October 2015
Venue: Old Trafford
Neither side could find the back of the net in a game of few opportunities when Manchester United and Manchester City played to a goalless draw at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The teams had a rather conservative start to the much anticipated derby, and chances seemed very difficult to come by as the defences stood firm. The teams tried to push forward for the opener but the only real chance of the first half was a 41st minute effort from Yaya Toure who dragged his effort just inches off target.
The teams headed into the break deadlocked at 0-0 with no shot on target from both sides.
The hosts were quick off the starting blocks in the second stanza, with Chris Smalling having a lovely chance in the 50th minute, but the Englishman dragged his shot just wide of the mark. Young Anthony Martial was looking lively on the wing, but it seemed a difficult task to get past the City defensive line, the final pass always letting them down.
Jesus came close to sneaking an opener past Joe Hart in the 81st minute but the English shot-stopper managed to keep the ball out in the bottom corner.
Both sides upped he tempo in the closing exchanges, in search of the opener. Jesse Lingard responded a superb strike which bounced off the crossbar after being put through on goal by Martial.
United looked threatening in the dying moments of the match and Smalling forced a good save out of Hart in the 87th minute, sending him to the bottom corner. The teams continued to push forward but the match would end in a stalemate, with both sides sharing the spoils.
