De Bruyne Shines As City Beat Rivals Utd

English Premier League

Result: Manchester United 1-2 Manchester City

Date: 10 September 2016

Venue: Old Trafford

Kevin De Bruyne played a starring role in the absence of Sergio Aguero, as Manchester City defeated Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho handed Henrikh Mkhitaryan his first start for the Red Devils, while Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho replaced the suspended Sergio Aguero.

City made the more encouraging start and were rewarded after 15 minutes when Kevin De Bruyne nipped the ball away from Blind, before calmly slotting in the into the bottom corner.

Pep Guardiola's charges continued to see more of the ball, as the half went on and they eventually doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute when Kelechi Iheanacho's close range effort.

However, United reduced the deficit just before the break when Claudio Bravo dropped a cross, which allowed Ibrahimovic to volley home from 12-yards out.

Mourinho made a double change at the start of the second half, as he introduced Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera for Jesse Lingard and Mkhitaryan.

It was end-to-end action in the second half, but the first real opening arrived after 74 minutes when Leroy Sane slipped in De Bruyne, who struck the upright from six-yards out.

With United trailing, Mourinho threw on Anthony Martial for the final 10 minutes, however the City defence stood firm, as City held on for the win.

Guardiola's charges maintain their 100 percent to the Premier League campaign and move to the top of the table.
