Result: Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool
Date: 10 March 2018
Venue: Old Trafford
Manchester United cemented second spot for another week as a brace from Marcus Rashford guided them to a 2-1 win over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils were without the services of Paul Pogba of Anthony Martial for the encounter, as Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata returned to the line up.
It was Rashford who broke the deadlock on 13 minutes as the striker raced onto Romelu Lukaku's knock on before skipping past Alexander-Arnold and blasting the ball into the far corner.
10 minutes later, the lead was doubled as Rashford pounced on a loose ball and side-footed the ball into the far corner from a similar distance to his first.
The Reds, meanwhile, struggled to get Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane in the game as the United midfield closed them down at every opportunity.
The Reds dominated the opening exchanges of the second half and they managed to pull a goal back on the hour mark through an own goal from Eric Bailly.
Jose Mourinho responded by introducing Marouane Fellaini for Rashford for the final 20 minutes.
Jurgen Klopp threw on the likes of Adam Lallana and Dominic Solanke as they pushed for an equaliser.
Nevertheless, Mourinho's troops, who failed to register a shot on target in the second, managed see out the closing stages to seal the win.
