English Premier League
Result: Manchester City 3-1 West Ham United
Date: 28 August 2016
Venue: Etihad
Pep Guardiola's Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season, as they defeated West Ham United 3-1.
Yaya Toure was once again left out of the match day squad along with Joe Hart, who was named on the City bench.
The home side broke the deadlock after eight minutes courtesy of a close range finish from Raheem Sterling, after some good work by Nolito and David Silva.
City doubled their lead in the 18th minute when an unmarked Fernandinho nodded home Kevin De Bruyne's free-kick.
Despite City's dominance, they hardly threatened the West Ham goal for the remainder of the opening half, while the visitors failed to register a single effort on target.
However, West Ham reduced the deficit 10 minutes into the second half, as Michail Antonio rose above Gael Clichy to head home at the far post.
City were then dealt a blow shortly after the goal, as John Stones picked up an injury and was forced off.
The home side had a number of chances to extend their lead in the closing stages, most notably Samir Nasir, but the substitute was let down by poor finishing.
However, City sealed the win in stoppage time as Sterling bagged his second by rounding the goalkeeper and finishing from a tight angle.
