Fellaini Sent Off As Man Utd's Top Four Hopes Take A Dent

English Premier League

Result: Manchester City 0-0 Manchester United

Date: 27 April 2017

Venue: Etihad

Marouane Fellaini was sent off in the closing stages, as Manchester United and Manchester City played out a 0-0 draw at the Etihad on Thursday evening.

The Red Devils were without Paul Pogba, while David Silva was missing for the Citizens.

City had the chance to break the deadlock after nine minutes when Kevin De Bruyne picked out Aguero, who hit the upright from six-yards out.

The visitors had their first meaningful effort in the 25th minute when Claudio Bravo's poor punch fell to Mkhitaryan, but the shot-stopper redeem himself by denying the United midfielder.

Pep Guardiola's charges enjoyed most of the possession in the first half, although the clear-cut chances were few and far between.

United should have broken the deadlock just before the halftime break, but Ander Herrera somehow headed wide of the upright from six-yards out.

The score remained goalless at the halftime break.

City nearly went ahead after 65 minutes but Eric Bailly deflected Nicolas Otamendi's header over the crossbar from close range.

United, meanwhile, were quite content to sit back with the hope of catching the home side on the break, although their passing was sloppy.

Both sides opted for a change after 78 minutes as Jesse Lingard replaced Antony Martial, while Leroy Sane made way for Jesus Navas for City.

The Red Devils were then reduced to 10 men in the 83rd minute when Fellaini was shown a straight red card for a headbutt on Aguero.

Gabriel Jesus had the ball in the back of the net in stoppage time, but the Brazilian's strike was flagged offside.

City pushed for an equaliser in the final stages but United managed to hold till the final whistle to claim a point.
