English Premier League
Result: Manchester City 3-1 Brighton and Hove Albion
Date: 09 May 2018
Premier League champions-elect Manchester City proved too strong for Brighton and Hove Albion as they registered a 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Citizens got off to a fiery start and they broke the deadlock on 15 minutes as Danilo latched onto a pass from Leroy Sane before calmly slotting into the bottom corner.
Brighton managed to level matters on 19 minutes when Leonardo Ulloa rose above his marker to head home Pascal Gross' cross from the right flank.
It was only a matter time before City restored their lead and they were rewarded in the 34th minute when Sane's cross found Bernado Silva, who drilled the ball into the bottom corner.
Silva's goal saw the Citizens break Chelsea's record for most goals in a Premier League season, taking their tally to 104.
Pep Guardiola's charges continued to dominate as the first half went on, although they struggled to carve out clear-cut openings.
Brighton should have leveled matters in the 57th minute but Anthony Knockaert somehow blazed over the crossbar from six-yards out with only Claudio Bravo to beat.
Despite that moment, the home side were in complete control, even without the services of David Silva and Kevin de Bruyne.
The hosts' third goal arrived in the 72nd minute as Sane surged into the box before picking out Fernandinho, who fired into the bottom corner from just inside the box.
Danilo went agonisingly close to completing his brace in the 89th minute but his curling free-kick crashed against the upright.
Nevertheless, City saw out the remaining stages with relative ease as the Champions won their final home game of the season.
