English Premier League
Result: Manchester City 4-0 Bournemouth
Date: 23 December 2017
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Sergio Agüero scored his 100th goal at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday on his way to a brace as Manchester City saw off Bournemouth 4-0 in Saturday’s Premier League clash.
Agüero started for the hosts despite reports of a rift between him and Pep Guardiola. However, the Argentine did not have much to work with early on as City struggled to break Bournemouth down.
As the half wore on, Guardiola’s side began to take control. Fernandinho fizzed a header over the bar as the first quarter of the game drew to a close and Nicolás Otamendi’s fierce long-range shot forced an alert save from Asmir Begovic 25 minutes in.
A minute later, the Cherries were made to pay for giving the ball away cheaply at the back. Fernandinho’s aerial ball found Agüero, who headed home after having been adjudged to have beaten the offside trap.
In the 53rd minute, Agüero turned provider as his perfectly-weighted through pass set Raheem Sterling up to double City’s lead.
Another 26 minutes later, the Argentine got on the end of a cross from Bernardo Silva and landed the knockout punch, heading in their third goal.
To make matters worse for early relegation candidates Bournemouth, Sterling teed Danilo up on the left of the box and he slotted home City’s fourth goal in the 85th minute.
The hosts bossed possession throughout the game and Ederson had very little work to do. With half of their 38 games out the way, City have dropped only two points this season and are well on course to smash Chelsea’s record of 95 points.
