English Premier League
Result: Manchester City 1-0 Arsenal
Date: 17 October 2020
Manchester City got back on track in the Premier League after defeating Arsenal 1-0 at the Etihad on Saturday evening.
Sergio Aguero was handed his first appearance of the season as the Citizens were without PFA Player of the Season Kevin de Bruyne.
For the Gunners, Mikel Arteta made two changes from their last encounter as Granit Xhaka and Nicolas Pepe replace Mohammed Elneny and Eddie Nketiah.
The Citizens dominated from the onset but had to wait until the 22nd minute for the opening goal when Raheem Sterling curled one into the bottom corner after Phil Foden's initial effort was saved.
Arsenal, meanwhile, had a chance to draw level just before the halftime break when Bukayo Saka ran through on goal, but the England youngster was denied by Ederson.
Unfortunately for the visitors, it was more of the same in the second half as Pep Guardiola's men dictated play, leaving the Gunners chasing the ball.
While chances were hard to come by, the Citizens were nearly gifted a second goal in the 77th minute when Luiz nearly diverted Joao Cancelo's cross into his own net.
Arteta opted for a double change at with nine minutes left in the contest as Thomas Partey and Nketiah replaced Xhaka and Pepe.
The Citizens were able to see out the rest of the game to get back on the winning trail ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League tie against FC Porto.
