English Premier League
Result: Manchester United 1-0 Bournemouth
Date: 13 December 2017
Venue: Old Trafford
Romelu Lukaku scored the only goal of the game to hand Manchester United a 1-0 win over Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay were handed their first league starts of the season, with Ashley Young and Ander Herrea dropping out.
The game's first chance arrived after 21 minutes as Charlie Daniels forced David De Gea into a fine low save with a strike from 20-yards out.
Four minutes later, the Red Devils broke the deadlock through Lukaku, who rose well to head home Juan Mata's cross, 1-0.
Bournemouth did not sit back after going behind and continued to press for an equaliser although they struggled to carve out clear cut chances.
Nevertheless, the score remained 1-0 to Jose Mourinho's men at the halftime break.
United should have extended their lead in the 59th minute but Anthony Martial managed fire over the crossbar from six-yards out after Asmir Begovic had saved Lukaku's initial effort.
With 20 minutes remaining, Bournemouth introduced strikers Jermaine Defoe and Benike Afobe as they pushed for an equaliser.
Substitute Marcus Rashford went close to doubling United's lead in the 72nd minute but his powerful strike from distance crashed against the woodwork.
The Red Devils continued to dominate in the final 15 minutes as they pushed for a second goal to seal the game.
However, 1-0 was how the score remained as United returned to winning ways in the league.
