Date: 19 September 2015
Venue: Etihad Stadium
West Ham stunned Manchester City with an incredible 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.
West Ham United stunned the Citizens as the visitors were off the mark only five minutes into the match after Victor Moses produced a thunderous effort from outside the box to make 1-0.
The hosts regained composure as the half progressed, and the two teams had a go at each other with no real threat on goal.
It was Winston Reid who had the next opportunity for The Hammers in the 30th minute but the New Zealand international’s shot was just wide. The visitors continued to apply pressure and a few moments later Diafra Sakho was there to tuck the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0 to West Ham, after a well worked corner.
City then upped the tempo in an effort to pull one back with the half drawing to a close, and Jesus Navas forced a good saved out of Adrian in the 38th minute.
A few moments later it was Sergio Aguero who tested the Spaniard, before Kevin De Bruyne produced an amazing strike from outside the box to make it 2-1 at the break.
The Citizens started the second half as the better side, and Nicolas Otamendi came close in the 52nd minute, before Yaya Toure had a couple of his efforts also well saved by Adrian.
Manuel Pellegrini’s charges continued to apply pressure in the second stanza but West Ham was proving to a tough nut to crack at the back. Toure came close to levelling matters in the 62nd minute but the Ivorians effort was just wide of the target.
Almost ten minutes later, substitute Wilfried Bony should have scored but the 26-year-old dragged his header wide from close range.
Otamendi had an opportunity of his own in the dying moments of the encounter but Adrian was again up for the challenge. Dimitri Payet then responded with a shot of his own, but Joe Hart managed to keep the ball out at the bottom corner, and by that the Hammers claimed the 2-1 win.
