English Premier League
Result: Liverpool 3-0 Southampton
Date: 22 September 2018
Mohamed Salah was back among the goals for Liverpool, who maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 3-0 win over Southampton
The Reds went ahead as early as the 10th minute, with Southampton's Wesley Hoedt deflecting the ball into his own net.
The lead was doubled in the 22nd minute as defender Joel Matip rose highhest to head home from a corner on his first start of the season.
Southampton, meanwhile, struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances and they certainly missed the services of Danny Ings, who could not feature against his parent club.
Jurgen Klopp's men were in full control in the first half, and they managed to bag a third goal just before the break when Salah poked home from close range after Xherdan Shaqiri's free-kick hit the woodwork.
The Reds suffered a blow ten minutes into the second half as Virgil van Dijk was forced off after picking up a knock.
Saints looked a more improved side in the second half, but they were only restricted to efforts from distance, none of which troubled Alisson Becker.
Salah had the ball in the back of the net once again in the 89th minute, but the Egyptian's strike was flagged offside.
Nevertheless, 3-0 was how the encounter ended as Klopp's men reclaim top spot with a six successive win.
