Venue: Anfield
Christian Benteke came back to haunt his former side, Liverpool as the Belgian netted a brace to hand Crystal Palace a 2-1 win at Anfield.
The Eagles were soaking up the pressure and hoping for the counter-attacks but Jurgen Klopp's red army were doing a good job with ball retention.
In the 12th minute, Philippe Coutinho nearly finished a well worked move with a goal but his shot from inside the box went narrowly wide.
However, Coutinho was not to be denied in the 23rd minute, as the Brazilian handed Liverpool the lead with a fine curling free-kick.
In the 34th minute Origi nearly made it 2-0 after a brilliant cross from James Milner on the left but his header sailed inches wide from close range.
The Eagles started to come out of the blocks and were making a contest of the match especially from the midfield.
Benteke found the equaliser for Sam Allardyce's men in the 41st minute, after turning home a cross from Jason Puncheon.
The match went into the interval with two teams level at 1-1.
Coutinho had a brilliant run inside the box after 55 minutes but Andros Townsend popped up with a timely block to deny the midfielder from six-yards out.
The Eagles were playing deep after returning from the break and the Reds were piling up the pressure looking to grab the lead again.
In the 66th minute Firmino had a low strike from the edge of the box that was goal-bound but missed narrowly to the right.
Benteke eventually made it 2-1 in the 75th minute with a header from point blank range, after some poor defending from Liverpool.
Klopp's charges pushed for a winning goal in the closing stages and threw on Alberto Moreno and Marko Grujić, but they could not bypass the Palace defence again.
