Liverpool clinched the final UEFA Champions League spot after thrashing Brighton and Hove Albion 4-0 on the final day of the Premier League season.
Jurgen Klopp’s charges were working their way into Brighton’s half patiently after a quarter of an hour and looked in control.
Sadio Mane should have sent the hosts ahead in the 19th minute after going clear one-on-one with Mathew Ryan but he fired straight at the Seagulls shot-stopper at the near post.
Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock for Klopp’s men in the 26th minute netting his 32nd goal of the season - more than any other player in a 38-game English campaign - with a clinical left-footed finish inside the box after Dominic Solanke rolled a ball on his turn, 1-0.
Dejan Lovren made it 2-0 to the Reds five minutes before half-time with a towering header at the far post following a cross from the left flank.
Solanke got the third goal for the hosts and his first for the club seven minutes into the second stanza by smashing a right-footed strike into the roof of the net after combining well with Golden Boot winner Salah, 3-0.
Firmino should have made it 4-0 for the Reds on the hour mark after going clear on goal in the centre of the box but Ryan made a great save to tip his looping strike over the bar.
Chris Hughton’s troops were finding occasional chances on the break but could not quite trouble the Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius.
Andrew Robertson made it 4-0 for Klopp’s men five minutes before time with a smashing low strike inside the box as the Reds ended the season on a high and in fourth place.
