New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri began life in the Premier League with an impressive 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.
New signings Kepa Arrizabalaga and Jorginho were handed a starts, while David Luiz was also handed a start in the Blues defence after being frozen out last season.
The visitors dominated the opening exchanges although they were unable to carve out chances as Huddersfield sat deep in their own half.
Kepa was called into action on 20 minutes as the Chelsea debutant produced a good save to keep out Alex Pritchard's shot from 20-yards out.
Just after the half and hour mark, the Blues took the lead as Willian picked out N'Golo Kante at the far post and the Frenchman volleyed into the far corner.
The Blues were then awarded a penalty on the stroke of halftime when Marcos Alonso was brought down in the box. Jorginho stepped up and slotted home on debut, 0-2.
In the 57th minute, Alonso went agonisingly close to registering a third goal for the Blues as his acrobatic effort crashed against the crossbar.
Brighton nearly pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute through Philip Billing, who saw his towering header tipped over the crossbar by Arrizabalaga.
However, the Blues wrapped up the victory with 10 minutes remaining as Eden Hazard played in Pedro, who calmly lobbed the ball into the far corner.
