Result: Everton 3-1 Swansea City
Date: 18 December 2017
Venue: Goodison Park
Wayne Rooney netted his 10th Premier League goal of the season in Everton's 3-1 win over struggling Swansea City at Goodison Park.
The Toffees enjoyed most of the possession in the opening 15 minutes of the encounter, while Swansea were happy to sit back and attack on the counter.
In the 36th minute, the Swans took the lead against the run of play when Leroy Fer tapped home at the far post after some poor defending by the home side, 0-1.
Everton were rewarded for their dominance on the stroke of halftime when they were awarded a penalty after Aaron Lennon was brought down in the box.
Rooney stepped up and had his spot kick saved, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin was on hand to slot home the rebound, 1-1.
The second half started off on a sloppy note, with both sides needlessly giving the ball away which led to a lack of chances.
However, the hosts took the lead in the 64th minute as Gylfi Sigurdsson cut in from the left and sent a fine curling effort past Lukasz Fabianski, 2-1.
In the 72nd minute, Everton were awarded their second penalty of the game when Jonjoe Kenny was brought down in the box. Rooney stepped up again but he made no mistake with his second attempt, 3-1.
The Toffees had a chance to register a fourth goal in the 84th minute when Calvert-Lewin was played through on goal but the young striker failed to beat Fabianski, who produced a low save.
That proved to be the final chance of half as Sam Allardyce's charges ran out 3-1 winners on the night.
