VAR Saves Man Utd From Loss, Top Four Hopes Dented

English Premier League

Result: Everton 1-1 Manchester United

Date: 01 March 2020

Venue: Goodison Park

The Video Assistant Referee came to Manchester United's rescue in the dying stages of the game as the Red Devils dropped points at Everton.

United got off to a disastrous start as David de Gea was hurried into a clearance which hit Dominic Calvert-Lewin and sailed into an empty net on three minutes.

The visitors nearly found themselves level a few minutes later but Nemanja Matic saw his first-time effort rattle the frame of the goal.

Tofees manager Carlo Ancelotti was forced into a change after 20 minutes as Seamus Coleman was unable to continue and was replaced by Sidibe.

The Red Devils dominated thereafter but had to wait until the 30th minute for the equaliser as Bruno Fernandes was allowed time and space to rifle the ball home from 20-yards out.

The hosts nearly restored their lead minutes before the halftime break but Richarlison was unable to steer his header on target from six-yards out.

Ten minutes into the second half, Everton nearly found themselves in front once again as Gylfi Sigurdsson's curling free-kick hit the upright with De Gea seemingly beaten.

With the visitors struggling to carve out chances, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer responded with a double change in the 75th minute as Odion Ighalo and Juan Mata replaced Mason Greenwood and Scott McTominay.

Everton had the ball the back in the back of the net in second-half stoppage time but Calvert-Lewin's deflected was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee as the encounter ended 1-1.
