English Premier League
Result: Everton 1-3 Manchester City
Date: 31 March 2018
Venue: Goodison Park
Manchester City edged closer to claiming the Premier League title after defeating Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park on Saturday evening.
The Citizens took the lead as early as third minute, with Leroy Sane volleying home at the far post following a cross from David Silva.
The lead was doubled in the 12th minute when swift counter-attack saw Gabriel Jesus head home Kevin de Bruyne's cross in the six-yard box.
Pep Guardiola's charges continued to dominate and they bagged a third goal in the 37th minute from another counter-attack, with Raheem Sterling turning home Silva's cross.
Everton did have a couple glimpses at goal in the first half, although none of those efforts forced goalkeeper Ederson into a save.
In the 62nd minute, Everton managed to pull a goal back courtesy of a fine low strike from Yannick Bolasie that left Ederson with no chance at the near post.
Fernandinho nearly restored City's three-goal cushion in the 75th minute but his curling effort from distance sailed inches over the crossbar.
Despite Everton's late attempts to reduce the deficit in the closing stages, City managed to see out the rest of the game to claim the points.
The Citizens will win the Premier League if they beat Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium next weekend.
