Liverpool, who were without Mohamed Salah, missed the chance to move second in the Premier League after they drew 0-0 with cross-town rivals Everton at Goodison Park.
The Reds carved out of the first chance of the half as James Milner picked out Dominic Solanke, who sent a header just wide of the upright.
Solanke squandered another chance three minutes later when he fired straight at Jordan Pickford from six-yards out.
Everton went agonisingly close to taking the lead on 22 minutes but goalkeeper Loris Karius produced a stunning save to keep out Yannick Bolasie's long-range effort.
The Reds enjoyed most of the possession for the remainder of the first stanza but they failed to carve out another chance as the sides went into the break goalless.
The Reds dominated the opening exchanges of the second half but failed to trouble Pickford, while Wayne Rooney was replaced by Idrissa Gueye after 56 minutes.
Klopp opted for a change of his own on 68 as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for James Milner as the pushed for the opening goal.
Even with the introduction of Roberto Firmino for the final 15 minutes, the Reds struggled to carve out a clear-cut chance.
In the end, neither side could a winning goal despite Everton's late push as the encounter ended all square.
