English Premier League
Result: Everton 0-0 Liverpool
Date: 03 March 2019
Venue: Goodison Park
Liverpool failed to reclaim top spot in the Premier League after failing to secure maximum points in the Merseyside derby on Sunday evening.
The Reds made only one change from their 5-0 thrashing of Watford the last time out, as captain Jordan Henderson returned to the line-up, as Roberto Firmino had to settle for a place on the bench.
Mohamed Salah had the first shot on target for the visitors after 15 minutes with a curling that Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was able to keep out as the Red pushed for an early goal.
A glorious chance fell for Salah after 28 minutes when he broke clear on goal but with only Pickford, he shot straight at the England international as the frustration began for the visitors.
Theo Walcott had the best chance for the hosts seven minutes before the break after racing clear on the right before sending an effort over the crossbar with only Alisson Becker to beat.
Ten minutes into the second half, Salah had another wonderful opportunity after being played in by Joel Matip but as he was about to shoot, Everton defender Michael Keane made a crucial tackle from behind.
Klopp refreshed his side with a double substitution in the 62nd minute as Georginio Wijnaldum made way for James Milner and Firmino finally entered the fray in place of Origi.
Fabinho had a great chance to break the deadlock for Liverpool with 19 minutes remaining after being found free inside the box but he hesitated before taking a shot and the chance went away.
The closing stages were frantic as both sides pushed for a winning goal in the latter stages of the half, however neither side could find an opening as the encounter ended goalless.
