Naismith Hat-Trick Sinks Woeful Chelsea
English Premier League
Result: Everton 3-1 Chelsea
Date: 12 September 2015
Venue: Goodison Park
A brilliant hat-trick from Steven Naismith saw Everton pile on the misery for Chelsea with a 3-1 Premier League victory on Saturday.
The Toffees broke through in the 17th minute when Galloway sent a cross in from the left and Naismith, who replaced Muhamed Besic in the ninth minute, ran onto the ball and fired home a header from close range.
Five minutes later the hosts extended their lead to two goals as Naismith completed his brace. Chelsea allowed Everton space in the middle of the pitch and they took advantage, pushing forward before setting it up for their super sub to place a low strike in the bottom corner of the goal.
The Blues got themselves back into the game in the 36th minute as Nemanja Matic found space in the middle and surprised the home team with a super strike from 35 yards that found the top corner of Tim Howard's goal.
Chelsea got away with one just before the hour mark when John Terry seemed to send a back-pass to Asmir Begovic while under pressure from Romelu Lukaku, but the referee didn't spot the infringement in the box.
Everton's victory was secured eight minutes before full time as Naismith netted his third goal of the game. Ross Barkley created the chance as he cut inside before sending in a through-ball for Naismith who firing home from a tight angle.
