Result: Crystal Palace 0-2 Manchester City
Date: 19 October 2019
Venue: Selhurst Park
Manchester City moved to within five points of Premier League leaders Liverpool after goals from Gabriel Jesus and David Silva secured victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday evening.
Pep Guardiola made four chances from the side that lost Wolverhampton Wanderers as Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus, Benjamin Mendy and Kevin de Bruyne returned to the starting line-up.
Jesus nearly marked his return to the side with a goal after 13 minutes, but the Brazilian forward was unable to steer his header on target after being picked out by De Bruyne.
After a quiet spell in the first half, City eventually broke the deadlock in the 39th minute as Bernardo Silva's superb cross found Jesus, who finished beyond Wayne Hennessey.
The second goal arrived two minutes later, as Sterling provider to pick out David Silva in the box, and the veteran volleyed home from close range to extend his side's advantage heading into the break.
The Citizens pushed for more goals in the second half, but they were denied by the Palace shot-stopper on a number of occasions, much to the delight of the Selhurst Park crowd.
Roy Hodgson threw on Christian Benteke for the final 15 minutes and the Belgian nearly made an immediate impact after seeing his towering header superbly saved by Ederson.
City went agonisingly close to bagging a third on 80 minutes as Gundogan weaved his way into the box before picking out De Bruyne, whose header crashed against the upright.
The late misses from City did not prove fatal as they were able to keep a clean sheet, with the victory moving the defending league champions up to second spot.
