English Premier League
Result: Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal
Date: 21 February 2015
Venue: Selhurst Park
Arsenal grabbed all three points as they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park in their Premier League clash on Saturday.
The Gunners were out of the gates in a flash as they won a penalty seven minutes into the game. Souare tripped Danny Welbeck just inside the area and referee Mark Clattenburg pointed to the spot. Santi Cazorla was the man who stepped up and converted the spot-kick with icy composure.
On the stroke of half-time Arsene Wenger's side were two goals in front as Olivier Giroud netted for the North London outfit. Alexis Sanchez put Welbeck through on goal and his shot was parried away but only as far as Giroud who steered home the rebound.
Sanchez came close to killing the game as a contest in the 57th minute when a counter attack saw Giroud lay the ball off for the Chilean to strike, but the attempt was just wide of the target.
Palace had a great chance in the 75th minute to pull a goal back. Jason Puncheon found himself in space to have a shot and directed a side-footed attempt at the far corner of the Arsenal goal, but it shaved the post instead.
The hosts found their goal before the end but it was too late to influence the result. Glenn Murray bundled home the loose ball following an initial strike from Zaha that was kept out in stoppage time.
Late drama saw the hosts hit the post in the final moments of stoppage time as Murray directed Bolasie's whipped cross at goal, but the Gunners survived to come away with three points.
