Former Man Utd Striker Dents Chelsea's Top Four Hopes
English Premier League Report, Chelsea v West Ham, 08 April 2018
English Premier League
Full Time: Chelsea 1-1 West Ham
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Chelsea and West Ham shared the spoils in Sunday's London derby as their English Premier League match at Stamford Bridge ended 1-1.
Chelsea started positively with the first effort on goal in the fourth minute, but Eden Hazard curled his shot from the edge of the box narrowly wide of the target.
Ten minutes later, West Ham nearly took the lead when Marko Arnautovic broke into the box and rounded the keeper, but saw his effort cleared off the line by a defender.
In the 24th minute, Alvaro Morata found the back of the net for Chelsea, but his goal was disallowed due to him being an off-sides position.
Chelsea continued to push forward and made their pressure tell in the 36th minute when Cesar Azpilicueta found himself in the right place at the right time to fire home a rebound from close range, 1-0.
The half ended with the home side leading by a single goal.
Two minutes into the second half and Willian should have made it two for Chelsea, but his shot from 14-yards out shaved the wrong side of the woodwork.
On the hour mark Morata had a goal disallowed for the second time, once again he was denied because he was in an off-sides position.
In the 73rd minute, West Ham leveled matters when Arnautovic slipped Javier Hernandez through on goal and the substitute, who had barely been on the field four minutes, made no mistake with just the keeper to beat, 1-1.
Chelsea threw players forward in the final ten minutes of the game in search of a winner, but the London derby ended in a stalemate.
