English Premier League
Result: Chelsea 1-0 Everton
Date: 11 February 2015
Venue: Stamford Bridge
A late goal from Willian secured all three points for Chelsea in their 1-0 Premier League win over Everton on Wednesday.
The match was off to a controversial start as Steven Naismith seemed to handle the ball in the area, throwing out his arm to prevent the ball from getting to Juan Cuadrado, but the referee waved it away.
The Toffees had their first chance of the game in the eighth minute when they moved the ball around swiftly before playing Romelu Lukaku through on goal, but the shot was deflected behind by Petr Cech's outstretched leg.
Eden Hazard was in fine form in the early stages of the game and created an opening in the 16th minute as he rode Stones' tackle before powering forward, cutting inside and playing the ball in for Loic Remy, but the striker's shot was blocked.
Nemanja Matic came close to breaking the deadlock in the 63rd minute when his curling free-kick past the wall headed towards the near post, but Tim Howard anticipated well and made the save.
Chelsea kept the pressure on the visitors as Willian got on the end of a through-ball and tried to bend a shot around Howard, but the American keeper was on song once again with a strong hand.
Everton should have been a goal ahead in the 69th minute. A brilliant cross from Oviedo found Lukaku, but the striker put his close range shot too close to Cech who made the save with his leg when the rest of the goalmouth was gaping.
The Blues seemed to net the winning goal in the 85th minute but it was ruled out after Branislav Ivanovic deflected it goalwards from an offside position.
The winner arrived in the 89th minute as Willian volleyed home a poor clearance from Howard. The shot took several deflections before nestling in the back of the Everton net.
