English Premier League
Result: Cardiff City 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Date: 30 November 2018
Venue: Cardiff City Stadium
After a bright start to the season, Wolverhampton Wanderers have now gone six games without a win in the Premier League after losing 2-1 to Cardiff City on Friday evening.
Cardiff were the first to threaten with a header from a corner by Mohamed Sais, but his effort was saved well in the end by Neil Etheridge.
Wolves didn’t wait long as Matt Doherty sneaked in at the far post to poke home the opener after Etheridge’s one-handed touch brought the ball back into playing equation.
Cardiff upped the pace and after a arrowed corner from the left, Harry Arter was denied by post after his shot from a loose ball closer to halftime.
With no major changes for the start of the second half, the encounter maintained its slow tempo with both sides struggling to get on the front-foot.
Wolves looked for a second and a shot from outside the box by Ruben Neves saw them come close, but good goalkeeping from Etheridge kept him out.
In audacious circumstances, Aron Gunnarsson brought down a long ball from inside the box to riffle home a stunning volley for the equaliser.
Wolves were beginning to feel the pinch, but continued to plug away in the hope of reclaiming the lead once again.
But another piece of magic this time from Junior Hoilett handed them a sucker punch by curling home from acute angle outside the box.
Late urgency from Wolves found them on the front foot in numbers to salvage a point, but the defence from the hosts stood tall.
For Cardiff, it three big points that now elevates them out of the relegation for the first time this season.
