English Premier League
Result: Burnley 0-2 Manchester United
Date: 23 April 2017
Venue: Turf Moor
Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney scored on their return to the Manchester United line up, as the Red Devils recorded a 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.
Ander Herrera and Maroune Fellaini also returned after starting on the bench in the Europa League, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo are out with long-term injuries.
Burnley enjoyed an encouraging start in the opening 15 matches, but only looked threatening with dead-ball situations.
United eventually broke the deadlock in the 21st minutes as Martial exchanges passes with Herrera before slotting into the bottom corner from six-yards out.
The lead was doubled in the 38th minute when Rooney's deflected effort crossed the line, after Martial's effort had been saved by Tom Heaton.
The score remained 2-0 to Jose Mourinho's charges at the break.
Burnley introduced Johann Gudmundsson and James Tarkowski in the second half, but the Red Devils continued to dominate proceedings.
Paul Pogba went close to adding a third goal 10 minutes into the second half, but the Frenchman's effort from distance was brilliantly saved by Heaton.
Jose Mourinho opted for a change of his own after 71 minutes, as Jesse Lingard made way for Marcus Rashford.
Rashford nearly extended the visitors' lead in the 83rd minute, but Heaton produced a fine save to keep out the striker's effort from a tight angle.
Nonetheless, United managed to see out the closing stages with relative ease as they move to within one point of Manchester City.
