Result: Burnley 2-0 Liverpool
Date: 20 August 2016
Venue: Turf Moor
Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season, as they lost 2-0 to newly promoted Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
The home side went ahead inside the first minute through Sam Vokes, who turned his marker before rifling the ball past Simon Mignolet from the edge of the box.
The Reds dominated after going behind but were restricted to strikes from distance, none of which troubled Burnley goalkeeper, Tom Heaton.
Despite the visitors seeing most of the ball, Burnley doubled their lead in the 37th minute as Steven Defour fed Andy Gray, who skipped past two challenges, before firing a low effort into the far corner.
Liverpool have struggled in the final third most notably Coutinho, who opted to shoot from distance on a few occasions, as they headed into the break two goals down.
Burnley's Heaton had to be at his best shortly after the break, as he pulled off two saves deny Coutinho and Firmino in quick succession.
With the Reds trailing, Klopp introduced Alberto Moreno and Marko Grujic with the hope of finding their way back into the clash.
Grujic seemed to have made some impact in the closing stages, but Liverpool were unable to bypass a stubborn Burnley defence.
