Aguero Hands Pep's City A Winning Start

English Premier League Report: Brighton v Manchester City 12 August 2017

By SL International - Aug 12, 2017 08:38 PM

English Premier League

Result: Brighton 0-2 Manchester City

Date: 12 August 2017

Venue: The American Express Community Stadium

Sergio Aguero was among the goals for Manchester City, as Pep Guardiola's charges began the Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

City's Gabriel Jesus had the first opportunity in the third minute from just outside the box but his shot was blocked by the Albion defensive wall.

In the 14th minute Fernandinho should have opened the scoring but his header from the centre of the box missed by inches to the right of goals.

City were controlling the match as the likes of David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne saw lots of the ball. while Brighton were looking to catch their visitors on counter-attacks.

In the 35th minute  Aguero sent a fine cross to Jesus in the box,  but the striker failed to direct his header on target.

Chris Hughton's charges were growing in confidence and held their defensive lines far better that in the previous minutes as the half drew to a close.

Matthew Ryan came to Brighton's rescue five minutes into the second as he made a brilliant save to deny Fernandinho from distance.

Albion got their first chance of the match as Davy Propper hit a right footed shot from outside the box that sailed just wide of the upright.

Aguero eventually broke the deadlock in the 69th minute , as he collected a pass from Silva before firing into the bottom corner.

The lead was doubled in the 74th minute when Brighton's Lewis Dunk  headed the ball into his own net, 0-2.

Pep Guardiola's charges retained the ball with the intention of running down the clock as City saw out the remaining stages with ease.
