Roberto Firmino bagged a brace to inspire Liverpool to a 5-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday evening.
The Reds dominated the opening exchanges, and they looked particularly threatening down the flanks in the first 15 minutes.
The hosts carved out a chance after 17 minutes, but Glen Murray fired over the crossbar from 10-yards out.
In the 29th minute, the deadlock was broken as Emre Can rose above his marker to head Liverpool into the lead, 0-1.
It was 2-0 two minutes later when Mohamed Salah slipped in Philippe Coutinho, who in-turn picked out Firmino to tap home at the far post.
Jurgen Klopp's charges continued to dominate as the first half went on, while Brighton struggled to get out of their own half.
Chances were hard to come by in the closing stages of the opening stanza, and Liverpool went into the break with a two-goal cushion.
The Reds came out guns blazing in the second half and they managed to add a third goal, as Firmino bagged his second of the game.
Two minutes later, Brighton were awarded a penalty, which Murray took and dispatched to reduce the deficit, 1-3.
Brighton nearly pulled another goal back in the 73rd minute, but Murray dragged his low shot just wide of the upright.
With 10 minutes remaining, Klopp withdrew Salah for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as they looked to see out the remaining stages of the tie.
However, Coutinho grabbed a fourth for the visitors in the 87th minute, with a superb free-kick that sailed under the wall and into the net, 1-.4
Coutinho was not done there as he bundled the ball home from close range to make 5-1 to Liverpool a minute later.
