Venue: Vitality Stadium
Manchester United strengthened their grip on second spot in the Premier League after defeating Bournemouth 2-0, with Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku getting on the scoresheet.
Jose Mourinho rested the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Nemanja Matic, as Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini were handed starts.
The opening stages of the encounter proved to be a cagey affair, as neither side could fashion any clear-cut chances in the opening 20 minutes.
United went close to breaking the deadlock after 26 minutes when Rashford dispossessed Nathan Ake before unleashing powerful strike that was palmed away by Asmir Begovic.
A minute later, the visitors took the lead as Ander Herrea played in Jesse Lingard, who in turn teed up Chris Smalling to slot into an empty net.
Bournemouth failed to create any chances in the final third of the field in the remaining stages of the first-half as United went into the break leading by the one goal.
The hosts started the second half on a brighter note, which prompted Mourinho to introduce Lukaku for Jesse Lingard after the hour mark.
The change paid off for United as a swift counter-attack saw Paul Pogba play in Lukaku, who neatly chipped the ball over the on-rushing Begovic in the 70th minute.
With an FA Cup semi-final coming up on Saturday, Mourinho opted to withdraw Pogba and introduced Daley Blind for the final 15 minutes.
In the end, the Red Devils saw out the remaining stages with relative ease to claim the win that sees them move four points clear of third place Liverpool.
