Result: Bournemouth 0-1 Manchester City
Date: 02 March 2019
Venue: Dean Court
Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League standings after defeating Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
Pep Guardiola made four changes from the midweek win over West Ham United as Kyle Walker, John Stone, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling returned to the line up.
City had to wait until the 18th minute for their first meaningful opening as David Silva's first-time effort from close range sailed inches wide of the upright.
Nicolas Otamendi went close to breaking the deadlock with 15 minutes remaining in the half with an over-head kick that sailed just over Artur Boruc's crossbar.
The visitors were then dealt a blow just before the break when Kevin de Bruyne was forced off with an injury and replaced by Riyad Mahrez.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 55th minute when Mahrez made the perfect impact by slotting home from close range after being set up by David Silva.
City continued to dominate as they went in search for a second goal, but the Bournemouth defence stood firm for most of the half.
Sterling should have doubled City's with nine minutes remaining, but the winger was unable to convert from six-yards out as the visiting support grew anxious.
Boruc ensured there would only be one goal on the day a he produced a stunning save to keep out Mahrez as the encounter finished 1-1.
