Venue:Stamford Bridge
Premier League champions Chelsea were left embarrassed as they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.
Simon Francis had the first shot in anger for the Cherries in the 11th minute after finding space on the right side of the box but his strike sailed over the crossbar.
Junior Stanislas was unlucky not to have opened the scoring for the visitors in the 17th minute as his close-range shot was saved by Chelsea shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois.
Gary Cahill had a chance for the Blues in the 28th minute with a header inside the box but he failed to direct his effort on target.
With five minutes remaining in the half, Marcos Alonso also had another opportunity similar to that of Cahill, but he also sent his header wide of the target.
Callum Wilson broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half with a composed strike to send the visitors into a shock lead.
It got better for Bournemouth just after the hour mark, as Stanislas punished the Blues with a close range finish, 0-2.
Nathan Ake made it 3-0 to Eddie Howe’s troops in the 67th minute by tapping home from six-yards out after the Blues defence failed to clear their lines.
Pedro had a chance to get Antonio Conte’s charges on the score-sheet ten minutes before time with a curling strike from the edge of the box but Asmir Begovic produced a wonderful save at the top corner.
Cesc Fabregas fancied his chances with a long range effort with five minutes remaining on the clock but he was off the mark as Bournemouth held on for the win.
