Dominant Chelsea Restore Seven-Point Lead Over Spurs

English Premier League

Result: Bournemouth 1-3 Chelsea

Date: 08 April 2017

Venue: Vitality Stadium

Premier League leaders Chelsea restored their seven-point gap over Tottenham Hotspur after recording a 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday evening.

The Blues broke the deadlock after 16 minutes as Diego Costa's wayward left-footed volley was deflected into the net by Bournemouth's Adam Smith.

The lead was doubled three minutes later, as Eden Hazard broke through on goal, before rounding Artur Boruc to slot into an empty net.

Bournemouth nearly pulled a goal back after 30 minutes but Benike Afobe's volleyed crashed against the upright with Thibaut Courtois well beaten.

The home side did reduce the deficit in the 41st minute through Joshua King, whose long range strike sailed into the back of the net via a deflection off David Luiz.

The Blues restored their two-goal advantage in the 67th minute, as Marcos Alonso curled home a sublime free-kick from 25-yards out,1-3.

Bournemouth responded by withdrawing Marc Pugh for former Liverpool winger Jordan Ibe with 20 minutes remaining.

However, Chelsea were cruising in the closing stages of the second half and continued to push for more goals, however they struggled to carve out chances.

Nonetheless, the Blues managed to see off a late surge from the Cherries as the score remained 3-1 at the full-time whistle.

Conte's charges are now seven points clear of Spurs with just seven games remaining this season.
