Liverpool Clinch Three Points On The Road
Result: Bournemouth 1-2 Liverpool
Date: 17 April 2016
Venue: The Goldsands Stadium
Liverpool moved up to eighth in the Premier League standings thanks to a 2-1 win away at Bournemouth on Sunday.
The Bournemouth defence was tested in the 23rd minute when Ojo showed off some individual skill to ghost past two players before having his shot blocked. The rebound fell for Randall, who also saw his attempt stopped before the goalkeeper grabbed the weak follow-up.
The breakthrough arrived four minutes before the interval. Daniel Sturridge had possession with his back towards goal. He was surrounded by defenders but got a backheel away that was parried by Boruc into the path of Roberto Firmino who turned it home.
Only a few minutes later the lead was doubled. Ibe directed a free kick into the box where Sturridge was in position to head home the finish for a 2-0 lead at the break.
Liverpool came agonisingly close to finding their third just after the half-time break. Joe Allen penetrated the defence with a pass and Sturridge ran onto it but his lobbed effort hit the woodwork.
Bournemouth had a terrific chance to close the gap when Pugh found King in space, but he was unable to get past Ward and Smith cleared the danger.
Sturridge was unlucky again just before the end of the game as his shot from inside the box rattled the post.
In the last few seconds of the clash Bournemouth found their goal. Joshua King got on the end of a high ball and sent a lovely half-volley into the back of the net.
Elsewhere, league leaders Leicester City were held to a 2-2 draw by West Ham United.
