Liverpool secured three valuable points on the road as they beat Aston Villa 2-0 in their Premier League clash on Saturday.
The Reds were first to break the deadlock as they netted the opener in the 24th minute. Jordan Henderson created the opportunity with a beautiful first-time pass forward for Fabio Borini. The Italian forward made the most of the chance as he steered the ball home.
Raheem Sterling had a great chance to double the visitors' lead in the 38th minute. The forward broke through the Villa defence with ease and only had the goalkeeper to beat but his attempted chip-shot was well saved by Guzan.
The Villa keeper was called to arms once more four minutes into the second half. Liverpool won a corner kick that picked out Martin Skrtel. The defender did well to head the ball down before Borini got a touch but Guzan denied them with a top save.
Aston Villa created good chances in the second period and were on top for large spells but just couldn't find the equaliser.
Liverpool made them pay for their profligacy as they notched up their second goal in the 79th minute. Rickie Lambert ran onto Sterling's pass and made room for himself before finding the back of the net with a powerful strike.
