English Premier League
Result: Arsenal 0-3 Manchester City
Date: 01 March 2018
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Manchester City proved too strong for Arsenal once again as they romped to a 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday evening,
The two sides met just four days ago, with the Citizens defeating the Gunners by the same scoreline in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
The visitors picked up from where they left off on Sunday and took the lead in the 15th minute through Bernardo Silva, who cut inside and sent a sumptuous curling shot past Petr Cech.
The Gunners were full of energy, despite going a goal down and kept pressing high to try and win the ball up field.
However, David Silva made it 2-0 to City in the 28th minute with a neat finish at the near post after being set up by Sergio Aguero inside the box.
Sane made it 3-0 to Guardiola’s troops in the 33rd minute following some quick attack from the visitors that saw Kyle Walker set up the German winger, who sent a low finish into the bottom corner.
The start to the second stanza was understandably slower, with City in no rush to go forward while the Gunners met a wall of defenders every time they tried to push up.
Arsene Wenger’s troops were awarded a penalty seven minutes into the second half after Henrikh Mkhitaryan was clipped by Nicolas Otamendi. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stepped up but saw his spot-kick saved by Ederson.
The tempo of the match was surprisingly high in the closing stages, given the scoreline, and the hosts kept their professionalism by maintaining the intensity in their attacks.
Aguero nearly registered his name on the scoresheet with 13 minutes remaining, but Cech produced a superb low save to deny the Argentine from close range.
Guardiola introduced Yaya Toure in the closing stages of the second half as they saw out the rest of the match with relative ease.
