Arsenal recorded their first victory of the new year, with a comfortable 4-1 win over London rivals Crystal Palace, at the Emirates stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Arsene Wenger’s men raced to a 4-0 lead before the half-hour mark after Nacho Monreal, Alex Iwobi, Laurent Koscielny and Alexandre Lacazette rounded off an emphatic victory for the Gunners.
Luka Milivojevic scored the consolation goal for the Eagles, as better defensive second half display ensured no further embarrassment for Roy Hodgson’s men.
The Gunners, who have been winless in their last three matches without South American Superstar Alexis Sanchez, got off to a flying start when Monreal headed home from the first corner of the game.
The Gunners full-back then turned provider, after the home side doubled their lead within 10 minutes after a poor clearance, by Palace full-back Fosu Mensah allowed the Spaniard’s low cross, into a dangerous area for the unmarked Iwobi to tap in from close range.
Arsene Wenger’s side were flying and made it 3-0 after 13 minutes, when their second corner of the game was bullied over the line by captain Koscielny to give the Gunners a commanding lead.
A shell-shocked Palace were being dismantled when Alexandre Lacazette got his name on the scoresheet and his side's fourth goal, within the first 30 minutes of a complete mismatch in terms of being a contest.
The Frenchman slotted home his low effort on the edge of the penalty area, after Gunners playmaker Mesut Ozil set up Lacazette with a deft touch which he finished off with great composure.
The halftime interval did wonders for the away side, as they put in a more rigid defensive display keeping the rampant Gunners at bay.
Wenger withdrew the likes of Ozil and Iwobi for the final 15 minutes, as the Gunners looked to see out the rest of the encounter.
The visitors were able to score later on, when Milivojevic showed great close control and volleyed home from close range 12 minutes from time.
