Arsenal On Fire Against Watford
English Premier League
Result: Arsenal 4-0 Watford
Date: 2 April 2016
Venue: Emirates Stadium
A merciless Arsenal hammered Watford 4-0 in their Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The Gunners surged ahead in the fourth minute as Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring. Alex Iwobi was the provider, sending an inviting cross towards the Chilean who scored on his second attempt after an initial save.
Watford centre-back Craig Cathcart was excellent in the first half hour and kept his side in the game with his positioning. He made a vital intervention to deny Sanchez a tap-in.
Arsene Wenger's charges doubled their lead shortly before the break with a wonderfully worked goal. Coquelin played Sanchez through on the right and the forward picked out Iwobi who thumped it into the back of the net.
Three minutes into the second half the game was secured for the hosts. Sanchez was in the thick of things again with his cross only partially cleared by Nyom who sent it straight to Hector Bellerin. The right-back slotted it with his first-time shot.
The Gunners should have been four goals clear shortly after their third. Sanchez found Iwobi in the box and his shot looked set for goal but hit the underside of the bar before Monreal knocked it onto the roof of the net.
In the last minute of the game the home side completed the rout as Theo Walcott got on the scoresheet with a tap-in after Campbell's cross.
