English Premier League
Result: Arsenal 3-0 West Ham
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Date: 14 March
Arsenal continued their impressive run of form when Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini all scored to earn the Gunners a crucial 3-0 win against West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It was a slow start to the game; a game pitting two teams with contrasting fortunes in the last few games as West Ham has struggled for form, whilst Arsenal have enjoyed a great run in recent games.
The first shot on target came off the head of Alexis Sanchez in the 14th minute, but Adrián was up for the challenge.
Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott forced great saves out of West Ham’s Spanish goalkeeper in the 26th and 32nd minutes respectively.
Arsenal was beginning to gain momentum as the game progressed but no clear threat was posed in front of goal.
Just when everyone thought the game would head into the break goalless, Frenchman Oliver Giroud rose above the rest to head the ball into the back of the net on the stroke of half time for the home team to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
The Hammers had a brighter start to the second stanza but after long period of ping pong, with no real threat on goal from either side, Ramsey was at the end of a Giroud pass to slot the ball into the bottom corner after 80 minutes of play.
Three minutes later, substitute Mathieu Flamini extended the hosts’ lead with a close range finish, only moments after entering the pitch.
Arsene Wenger’s charges held out for the remainder of the game to run out 3-0 winners on the day.
Earlier in the day Crystal Palace beat Queens Park Rangers 3-1. Zaha, McArthur and Ward scored for Palace, while Phillips scored for QPR.
