In-Form Aguero On Target As Pep's City Move Third

English Premier League

Result: Southampton 0-3 Manchester City

Date: 15 April 2017

Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane were among the goals as Manchester City crushed Southampton 3-0 to move up to third spot in the Premier League.

Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi returned to the City line up, while Raheem Sterling drops to the bench.

The Saints had a chance to open the scoring after 13 minutes when Gabbiadini pulled the back for Dusan Tadic, who blazed his effort over the crossbar.

City's first meaningful opening arrived after 35 minutes as Sergio Aguero played in David Silva, who failed to hit the target from close range.

Pep Guardiola's charges continued to see most of the ball as the first half went on, but they were finding it tough to break down the Southampton defence.

Nonetheless, the score remained goalless as the sides entered the halftime break.

City eventually broke the deadlock in the 56th minute as Kompnany rose above his marker to head home his first goal in over a year.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 77th minute as Kevin De Bruyne unselfishly teed up Sane, who slotted home from close range.

Aguero registered his name on the score-sheet in the 80th minute as the Argentine powered home a header, after being picked out by De Bruyne.

With City comfortably leading, Guardiola introduced Pablo Zabaleta for David Silva to see out the remaining stages of the half.
