English Premier League
Full Time: West Ham United 0-1 Chelsea
Date: 04 March 2015
Venue: Boleyn Ground
A single goal from Eden Hazard handed Chelsea a slender 1-0 win over West Ham United in an English Premier League match at Boleyn Ground on Wednesday night.
The win sees Chelsea still five points clear at the top of the table with 63 points while West Ham dropped to tenth place with 39 points.
It was a slow start to the game with both sides struggling to fashion chances in front of goal early on.
Chelsea finally took the ascendancy and opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Eden Hazard headed home a right-wing cross from Ramires, 1-0.
Ten minutes later John Terry came close to doubling Chelsea’s lead when he met a Cesc Fabregas, but his header skimmed the wrong side of the post.
In the 36th minute West Ham nearly drew level when Diafra Sakho met a cross from Carl Jenkinson, but his ten-yard header was brilliantly saved by the Chelsea keeper.
Neither side could add to the scoreline before the break.
West Ham started the better of the two sides in the second half as Sakho came close to finding an equaliser five minutes after the restart when his shot from just inside the box went inches wide of the post.
In the 56th minute only the woodwork denied Ramires when he broke forward down the right flank, cut inside and saw his 20-yard left-footed attempt strike the post.
The game got a bit scratchy after that with neither side really producing any clear cut chances.
West Ham tried to find an equaliser, but the Chelsea defence held firm to pick up their 19th league win of the season.
