English Premier League
Full Time: Southampton 0-1 Swansea City
Date: 01 February 2015
Venue: St. Mary’s Stadium
A goal seven minutes from time courtesy of Jonjo Shelvey saw Swansea City beat Southampton 1-0 in an English Premier League match at St. Mary’s stadium on Sunday.
The Saints had a chance to go above Manchester United on the league table, but the loss means they sit in fourth place on 42 points, a point adrift of the Red Devils, six behind second placed Manchester City and only above Arsenal on the table because of a superior goal difference.
The win for Swansea sees them up to ninth place with 33 points, one above tenth placed Stoke City and three behind eighth placed West Ham.
It was not the most entertaining match with chances on goal few and far between as both teams squandered possession with poor decision making and bad passing in the final third.
The home side had about 70 percent of the possession in the first half, but they were unable to do much with it as the Swansea defence held firm.
It was more of the same in the second half, but Swansea stole the win when Shelvy powered the ball home with his right foot from just outside box, 1-0.
The game ended on a worse note for Southampton after Ryan Bertand was shown a straight red card for a two-footed challenge on Modou Barrow.
