Full Time: Manchester City 5-0 Newcastle United
Date: 21 February 2015
Venue: Etihad Stadium
An impressive display from Manchester City saw them crush Newcastle United 5-0 in an English Premier League match at the Etihad on Saturday evening.
The win, which was City’s 16th of the league season, see the Manchester club up to 55 points, five adrift of leaders Chelsea who dropped points earlier in the day in a 1-1 draw against Burnley.
The loss for Newcastle, which is their tenth of the season, sees them placed 11th on the table with 32 points.
City got off to the perfect start when they were awarded a penalty in the opening minute after Edin Dzeko fouled inside the box by Vurnon Anita. Sergio Aguero stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, 1-0.
The home side doubled their lead ten minutes later when Dzeko drove into the box from the right flank and square for Samir Nasri to turn home, 2-0.
The game was over as a contest in the 21st minute when a pass over the top of the Newcastle defence from David Silva saw Dzeko superbly control the ball before firing home from 16-yards out, 3-0.
City dictated the flow of the game for the remainder of the half, but failed to add to the scoreline.
Six minutes into the second half, however, and the home side did find their fourth goal when Aguero square for Silva who controlled on his chest and sent the ball past the keeper, 4-0.
Silva found his second goal two minutes later with a volley from just inside the box which found the bottom corner of the goal, 5-0.
In the 75th minute only a brilliant save from Tim Krul kept Newcastle from conceding another one as he denied Wilfried Bony in a one-on-one situation after he was slipped through on goal by Yaya Toure.
City took their foot off the pedal after that and cruised to a comfortable win.
