English Premier League
Teams: Liverpool 2-1 Manchester City
Date: 01 March 2015
Two wonder strikes from Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho saw Liverpool beat Manchester City 2-1 in an English Premier League match at Anfield on Sunday.
The Reds started the better of the two teams with Adam Lallana breaking through on goal in the ninth minute, but he failed to beat Joe Hart in a one-on-one.
Two minutes later the home side did take the lead when Jordan Henderson unleashed a 24-yard thunderbolt that found the top right corner of the net, 1-0.
In the 13th minute City almost drew level when Sergio Aguero burst into the box form the left flank, but saw his 14-yard shot strike the far post.
City did find the equaliser in the 25th minute when Aguero played Edin Dzeko in space inside the box who proceeded to turn his defender and tuck a low shot into the corner of the net, 1-1.
Ten minutes later Liverpool came close to taking the lead again when Lazar Markovi played a beautiful through ball for Lallana on the right side of the box, but his shot struck the side-netting.
Neither side could add to the scoreline before the break.
Two minutes into the second half City came close to scoring when Pablo Zabaleta broke down the right flank and crossed for Aguero, but his header skimmed the wrong side of the crossbar.
In the 52nd minute Lallana created a golden chance for Raheem Sterling when he squared for the Liverpool striker, but he shot wide from six-yards out.
In the 75th minute Philippe Coutinho scored another wonder goal for Liverpool after cutting in from the right flank and firing a ferocious strike into the top right corner, 2-1.
City tried to find their way back into the game, but were unable to do so as the Liverpool defence held firm.
The win sees Liverpool up to fifth place on the league table with 48 points while City occupy second spot with 55 points.
